To a modern world, the ancient word atonement can feel like an obsolete relic—a cold, legalistic transaction or a gruesome myth that has no place in our everyday lives. It is easy to drift into thinking that the cross doesn't really matter anymore, convinced we can fix our own messes, run our own machinery, or save our communities through human progress. This morning we are going to discover that this ancient truth is the only anchor strong enough to ground us in a world that is falling apart. The atonement matters because our soul cannot survive on a diet of sterile mechanics, and we cannot scrub the stains off our own history with good intentions. The atonement is a living, multi-faceted rescue by a Brother who climbed into the canyon of our suffering, broke the power of our greatest fears, and settled our ledger once and for all. Let’s gather for worship this week as we put down our exhausting checklists, silence the legalistic machinery, and look up to find true rest in the Savior who has already finished the work.
