The Spirit Acts: A Trip to Ephesus

The Spirit Acts: A Trip to Ephesus

In today's sermon we take a trip with Paul to Ephesus (Acts 19). We will explore the "The Way" as it collided with the spiritual and philosophical landscape of ancient Ephesus. Far from being a mere school of human thought or a religious group, the Way, as God’s plan of salvation is called in Acts 19, is defined as the Holy Spirit's power unleashed in the name of Jesus to confront spiritual darkness and advance the Kingdom of God. By examining Paul’s ministry in a city famous for its devotion to magic and the goddess Artemis, we will see how the gospel offers a distinct alternative to self-reliant philosophies and exposes the danger of trying to manipulate divine power for personal gain. Today’s sermon message serves as a reminder that following Jesus is a totalizing lifestyle—one that provides the strength to maintain pure devotion and experience God's immeasurable power working within us today.
