Sobriety and Human Desire

Sobriety and Human Desire

Today's sermon is built around 1 Peter 4:1-11. In this passage the word of God reminds the holy nation of their relationship to sin—they are done with it! Now, they live for the will of God. Leaving a lifestyle of alt-sexuality and inebriation behind (and the friend group associated with it) often brings judgment mixed with condemnation resulting in suffering. In those times, those who belong to God’s household are reminded: you do not live to satisfy the judgement of people who judge according to human standards; rather, you live to be judged by the just judge who judges with impartiality. The gospel was preached so that you may live a new life today and stand—ALIVE—before God in the spirit tomorrow. So, having left a lifestyle of inebriation, God’s obedient children are encouraged to live a sober-minded lifestyle of prayer that gives was to love and her fruits shared with God’s household.
