The Firstborn

Today we gather together around the table of our fellowship with one another and our Lord, to proclaim again the gospel of our salvation; so, we can hear it again; so, we can believe it—yet again. Our scripture today is Colossians 1:15-23. From this word, we celebrate Jesus as the firstborn of creation—the new one and the old one. He is the image of the invisible God and the fullness of God dwells in him. The story of the cross and tomb we remember today means God has reconciled us to himself by sending his son to be the first among many in the family of faith. In Christ, we are presented holy in God’s sight, without blemish and free from accusation. Read it again (Colossians 1:22): because of the death and resurrection of Jesus, we come to the table this morning without blemish and free from accusation. Without blemish. Free. From. Accusation. This is the gospel of our salvation. Hear it. Believe it.
