Redeeming Love: Ruth, Boaz, and What the World Needs Now

Today, Jason shares a final message from the time period of the Judges. Did you know the story of Ruth takes place during the time when the Judges ruled? It is a story of darkness giving way to light, and it gives us a glimpse of two household-heroes, Ruth and Boaz, who demonstrate life changing faithfulness, courage, and love. After reading this story, you just can’t help but think, this is what the world needs now.

Judges is a book about God's faithfulness to keep his covenant promises because of who he is. Our theme this year comes from Psalm 46, is a Psalm of confidence, encouraging the people of God to confident action in the face of national wars and ecological disaster. That confidence is based on two things: God’s will – it is impossible for God to lie. God’s being – it is impossible for God to not be who he is. Judges opens up with this very idea, God saying to his people: I will never break my covenant. As often as you rebel and turn away from me, and as hard as my discipline becomes to bear, when you turn your face toward me in humility, I will be there to rescue you. Judges 2:1-2 The angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land I swore to give to your ancestors. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, 2 and you shall not make a covenant with the people of this land, but you shall break down their altars.’ Yet you have disobeyed me. Why have you done this?
