An (un)Expected Birth in Bethlehem

An (un)Expected Birth in Bethlehem

Thanksgiving has given way to Christmas in a big way, as we are starting to celebrate with parties and gingerbread houses covered in sweet goodies. While there are many things to celebrate, we our prone to draw out celebratory energies in the direction of the birth of a baby born in Bethlehem. We celebrate God’s greatest gift to the world—His one and only Son, Jesus. Matthew chapter two catches up with Jesus sometime after He was born, and it introduces us to Magi from the East who traveled to find the newborn king and worship Him. Because the birth of Jesus was foretold by prophets long ago, His birth teaches some things about God’s promises: they are not a secret; God keeps them in His own time; and, God fulfills them in real time.
