Cross and Crown

Today we continue our worshipful reflection on the central story of our faith—the death and resurrection of the lamb of God; we call him Jesus—which is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Joshua, meaning God is salvation. As Jesus was placed on the cross, he was mocked as the “messiah who saved others but could not save himself”; ironically, the eternal truth of Jesus’ power and purpose was proclaimed in the insults of the religious leaders and Roman guards. Jesus is the promised messiah and Son of God. Today we will read about his death from Mark 15:16-39, as we think about three important questions: Who is Jesus? What do we believe? Will we tell others?
